You’re More Than Welcome!

Hi there. My name is Dave and I lead product teams that develop education and social-serving technologies. I’ve created things that teach, things that promote play and things that generate community. I’ve built lots of things, really, for audiences as diverse as incarcerated parents, teens or families seeking support accessing supplemental nutrition assistance programs. I’ve done more, besides, but that isn’t relevant to the conversation we’re starting today.

Instead, I invite you to join me for a series, potentially a long series, of conversations. The national conversation about diversity, equity and inclusion has prompted me to think deeply about what it means to make things that teach people, and more importantly, teach and reach all people equally.

Should I have thought about this earlier? Yes. Absolutely, no non-apology about it. But, here we are and, in speaking with other interesting education-focused people, I realized that the conversation has twists, turns, nuances and facets. In feeling like I knew it all, I really knew very little. I know very little. And, since no single resource seems to bring all sorts of great thoughts together, I’ve created More than Welcome, a web series to document the conversation.

More than Welcome is the record of my exploration about what it means to make products in which all people can find themselves, and through which all people can learn equally.

I’m bound to make mistakes. When I do, please correct me. I’m learning. As I learn, I hope you will, too.

— Dave
